A name of an invention is the name in the Declaration of Registration, Description, Summary and other documents related to the invention. A name of an invention is the first and important information for an invention, so naming an invention must be carefully researched, leading to help others immediately recognize an invention. Here is the guideline for naming an invention to file an application of invention registration.
Because an invention is a technical solution, its name should be short, clear; brief display the type, functions or use of the object. A name of invention should be compatible with the nature of the invention, shown in detail in the description; and fully reflect main object as mentioned in the request of protection. Do not use the trademark of a product or symbols, specific abbreviations to name an invention.
A name of an invention should not be promotional or advertising, not with adjectives like “new”, “optimal”, “the best” or ambiguous words, symbols which are not compatible with the nature of the invention. In general, to show the type of the object requesting for protection, a name of an invention should start with words “process”, “method”, “equipment”, “preparation”, “compound”,… next words are phrases of object’s function like cleaning, waste treatment, herbicides, … Words starting in the name of the invention like solution, technology, innovation,… can’t show the types of object requesting for protection. If the object in the registration of patent is chemical compound, biological materials, the name of the object should be compatible with the rule of naming in the field of corresponding chemistry, biology.
